The Mortellaro Affair

...The Mortellaro Affair...
...or... Ground zero at Budd Hopkins' last big case...Strike 3...
by Alfred Lehmberg

The only thing that kept me going with regard to Dr. Mortellaro—and his "perceived abduction"—for as long as I did was Dr. Mortellaro himself.  I believed the "man." Budd Hopkins and David Jacobs were but a lurid icing on the "cake" finally perceived. Disappointments would be rampant and profound.
.
See, Mortellaro was a harmless peach initially, a seeming mench-of-a-guy with the comforting appearance of a worn and seam-busted house slipper. Later he would evolve into a bucket of cheap meat just ready to turn... or a greasy bowl of affected loquaciousness. ...He couldn't be lying that much. Could he? Pause for squirty giggles!
.
There were other idiosyncratic inducements to his banner I'll illuminate further on, on this rather protracted ride.
.
A summa college graduate and a retired vet—for an early self-defense—I'm not a complete rube. He was that sincerely convincing... not forgetting my penultimate responsibility for the tragic fall-out, eh?  It remains I was lied to, and not the liar.  Still, mea culpa.
.
It transpired finally that when Mortellaro's personal credibility began to evaporate, so did my increasingly insulted faith in his awkward and unlikely tale.  ...Almost too late as it turned out.  We were bouncing down the runway for pecuniary takeoff, below sane minimums, when I pulled the throttles back, myself! Propitiously applied feathered propellers and judicious brakes forestalled complete catastrophe.  Forewarned? I won't suffer a road to Abilene.
.
That said, his story, now and in retrospect—and in the opinion of this writer's 20/20 hindsight—seems baldly contrived, patently juvenile, and even stealthily appropriated.  I feel shame.  I wanted to believe it.
.
I'm astonished now I was ever taken in.  I'm more than a little ashamed and embarrassed, actually.  That should be obvious by now. Even this early in.
.
Still, one might learn themselves of perils and pitfalls a result of my very real experience with this brand of shame and humiliation.  Some utility can be derived by a person like myself who innocently "has to know," and dodge that bullet, we're going to describe in the upcoming, piercing me, can ya dig it?
.
Some good can still come of it.  Gaze upon my works and despair...
.
In my embarrassed defense (and to neutralize glowing recommendations I've written for him over the last couple of years, extant in cyberspace) the Doctor (?) was only ever given credence, by me at any rate, out of the idiosyncratic credit I feel he had painstakingly assembled with me during my ongoing, and too late recognized for what it was... advantage taking manipulation. I now believe I was well and truly duped... by a natural at it.  Hopkins was duped, too.  Dr. Jacobs gave credence.  I have him on tape in a mid 90s interview.
.
I wanted to believe Dr. Mortellaro, because I was cloyingly *engineered* to believe Dr. Mortellaro.  I believed the "man," such as he portrayed himself.  Hopkins and Jacobs were similarly engineered.
.
In light of circumstances, occurrences, evolved realizations, collected documents of saved E-mail, ...forgetting aforementioned hindsight... that belief has evaporated, completely.  ...Completely.  Hopkins, to his ultimate chagrin, hung on after I'd been "86ed."
.
Consider, a practiced adept, in my opinion, skilled in telling the listener exactly what the listener wanted to hear, "Dr." Mortellaro worked his comforting psychological magic for me, among others.  As time went on, this seemed to become more and more obvious.  Still, in the beginning, he was flattering, accommodating, externally validating, and self-deprecating... a "great guy", at the start—the kind of friend you thought saw you the way you wished you could see yourself...
.
No, all that gets a bucket of cold and fetid water; in my opinion, it was ever a mask of cold and duplicitous calculation.
.
Early on, and from the beginning, "Dr." M. was very careful to hit all the appropriate—and inappropriate, come to think of it: he's intruded on the death of my father—"friendship" buttons with me, display all the qualifying identifiers of empathy and compassion for me, highlighting his toleration of discursive politics and liberal humanism to me, swear oaths of passionate fidelity at me... and spin for me a comforting web of perceived reality that encouraged a return to him of all those things, plus (!), from me.  See how that works?
.
A grown man, combat pilot, and summa graduate as stated, I still bought into "Dr." Mortellaro for the proverbial hook, line, and sinker.
.
The entire experience is a recognized personal regret, now, in a life with few regrets—a tree producing, sadly, regrettably toxic fruit, only. Moreover, and in my very considered estimation, it was all an ax-grinding charade, fiction, and fantasy to facilitate a non-admitted goal of sanguine self-promotion for Mortellaro, only.  Team meant nothing.  Synergy earned a blank stare from the "doctor.".
.
All of the insouciant and duplicitous stroking alluded to above was necessary for me to swallow extremely unlikely (...totally ~unacceptable~ if not buttressed by strange lights in my own sky!) fabrications!
.
...Tales of men in black, shadowy harassment by government agents, inexplicable bugging of his home by persons unknown, frequent abductions by alien beings... ...early meetings with Bob Dylan a result of some "plausibility," friendships with legendary science fiction writers, a hypnotically recalled introduction to his own "star children," and his "brave" struggle with "mean-spirited boss-alien-preying-mantis-beings" that tortured him, spitefully (!), and made him have forced reproductive relations with discomfiting persons... This was the unlikely little construction spun out.  It truly dazzled!
.
Hopkins believed him; Jacobs too. Mortellaro was being cued up as grist for their personal mills... but, we digress.
.
Though, the preceding was Mortellaro's report!  Incredulous stuff... and I bought it!  Christ, but I feel, in the becoming tedious reference to 20/20 hindsight, like such a patent fool.
.
Thing is... the "appearances" were that all of this, *weird stuff*, was happening to this "great guy" with a heart of *gold*, a kind and gentle little human... seemingly generous as the day is long, brave as a New York fireman, and smart as two and a half guys with Doctorate's degrees (of which he had two ...or two and a half!).  Well, no, no, and resoundingly no.
.
In my defense, and in my opinion, no one of this "caliber", "depth of feeling", "personal integrity", and "reputation" could be saying the stuff he was saying, making these stupefyingly incredible claims... unless he was crazy... or it was really happening to him, I reasoned.  ...I believed, as anyone can... the *big* lie... not for long enough.
.
Hopkins (King of the Abductees) believed him, I reiterate... and there seemed to be a whole medical community willing to stand behind him with regard to his general sanity and to the high-strangeness of his physical claims...   Well, no, Mortellaro touted "invisible colleges" of medical doctors found nowhere in the evidence of a real-world it turned out!
.
Like some others, many of them significantly smarter, more experienced and more educated than I (Abduction doyen Budd Hopkins among them, remember), I bought in.  It was easy to do... he was a "great" guy...  after all ...and his... feces... ...~seemed~ consolidated?
.
Heavy freakin' sigh...
.
Moreover, he was being "maligned", "persecuted," "discounted," and "marginalized"... well-nigh "destroyed" by significant elements in the ufological community for reasons which were even outlined to me at the time, but which I rationalized away (to my present chagrin) as "sour grapes" of a "missed opportunity" for an ascendency in matters ufological... on their part!
.
Hindsight indicates the only thing these "Malicious Mortellaro Maligners" were actually guilty of was not wanting to dance to the good Doctor's dictating tune! These were sentient people wanting to focus more on what was "occurring" over who it was occurring "to"... and not how "valiant" that person was in his "brave" struggle with it, anecdote beside the scientific point! The preceding sentence is a ~key~ concept, reader, verily.
.
As it turned out, all the warnings, I believe, and I mean all the warnings, were spot on!  Doctor Mortellaro never wanted teammates in a "righteous group struggle against the unknown" (indeed, he demonstrated no concept of teamwork); he wanted loyal employees, ladies, and gentlemen, employees not concerned with, and unfettered by, the bothersome requirement of a paycheck... ...to help validate his wretched and humiliating fiction.
.
Things were tolerable only as long as the tune skipped to... was the doctor's; if not he became "ill," was crippled with chronic pain "that never left" him, required painkillers, emergency room visits (once because our disloyalty made him drink too much), and bed rest...
.
A normal person wanted to do something to alleviate that "pain and CRUSHING responsibility [he] endured...".  Going along with him... helped him.
.
~I~ felt good supporting a "brave soldier" in the ufological struggle...  ...Christ's wounds!
.
The reader begins to see, perhaps, the pitiable and chronic "neediness" of all this.  His 'neediness' was the well-worked lever in the "Mortellaro support mechanism."  I was facilitating the will of a mewling and self-involved social infant, I'd came to discover.
.
Our group/association was exciting and cutting-edge, at first.  I felt like we were standing on the threshold of some *larger* reality!  We were a small band of intrepid players, a team of brave boys and girls... respected equals exploring inner and outer space (...isn't that pathetic forgetting how sincere I thought it was?).  We seemed on the cusp of new tech, medicine, computing, power; it seemed that our efforts, our loyalties, and our fidelities were going to be (albeit needlessly!) rewarded with some new kind of knowledge, extraterrestrial actuality, or ufological revelation (piquing me since I was a kid, frankly), that we could all share in... it sure felt like that.
.
It was not to be.  ...Not, in my opinion, with the good "Doctor," anyway.
.
I had blithely entered, in my opinion, into the Cult of Mortellaro. A cult, seemingly, every bit as paranoiac as other cults—with distrusted "unbelievers" and "enemies" behind every tree, a cloying mal-intellectual two-color totalitarianism, regular "prayer" meetings in the form of daily one on one or conference phone conversations with the "Doctor," incessant E-mails... and an ongoing diatribe of corrosive hatred for "that which was not" pro-"Jim Mortellaro" or "total support" for same!
.
When I think of the venom (directed at ~me~ eventually! LOL!) that was spewed at others in my presence while I was in his "trusted" association, the litigious acts of revenge that he would contemplate against persons who disputed his claims, laughed at his assertions, or questioned his motivations... I'm discomfortingly reminded that he is very likely, now, doing the same for me.  How unrestrictedly and tragically pathetic... forgetting how discomfiting and personally threatening it truly was!
.
Many times he regaled me with tales of reports to his local authorities regarding the suspected criminal behaviors of his detractors, detailing to me their "alleged" criminal activities... Then there was the unceasing name-calling, well-poisoning, and hate-mongering that went on and on and on... without surcease... All this began to take its toll on an increasingly strained relationship, forgetting that that "hatred" had made its way 'round to me...
.
Coupled with his increasingly unappreciative appropriation of skills he didn't have, opportunities not presented to him, and labor he couldn't accomplish on his own (I mean he couldn't do anything but "talk," really...) he used me (and others) to shamelessly prosecute, in my opinion, his shallow agenda of bald, featureless, and wholly unwarranted self-promotion.
.
I began to get "cold feet" regarding a continued association given the direction we seemed to be taking. I asserted my concerns by withdrawing (a couple of times) from the AlienView Group List I could no longer contribute competently to... because of the Doctor's senseless moderation... and by withdrawing from participation in the radio program because creative and philosophical disagreements with the Doctor made it impossible to be in the same bleeding "room" with him!
.
Oh, the hue and cry, the sturm and drang, the swearing oaths, and the impassioned proclamations of betrayal... he'd "always expected" from me!  I stood firm.  I began asking why.  I wanted him to validate himself... I requested that he qualify himself.  I expected him to justify himself.
.
I demanded that he find a way to contribute equal effort to the team, which to that point was flatly non-existent.  Initially (...strategically?) , he folded, and opted, I thought, for more fairness and openness in the interest of our substantive and very rewarding mutual association... no.
.
Astonishingly, I found out, and innocently too, that he had stealthily been working for a consensus with other group members exploring my removal from the association... Talk about blindsiding, and that "Business made it necessary..."  What.  Business?  We were explorers!
.
...You see, as angry as I ever got with him or as aggravated as I ever felt with him... as disappointed as I was ever to become with him... as disgusted as I became with the suppurating reality of his true politics, outlook, worldview, and agenda... it never occurred to me to try to oust him our group.
.
You could have knocked me over with a pissant's feather-duster that he'd consider that for me! Things were dicey, by that point, sure... but we were friends, damn it, brothers of the "ufological fray..." and he was a person that I'd already gone the distance for!  In ardent spades... patient reader!
.
If he told me once, he told me a thousand times, "I owe you forever, Al," he said that to me and in front of others...  "Forever", apparently, had a "shelf-life" or "best if used by..." date.
.
Made abruptly conscious with the knowledge of that transparent, completely unexpected, and very personal betrayal, I began to identify other significant flaws in our association.  If he was less than forthcoming with regard to simple loyalty, or with key details of the "shadowy business plans" involving all of us, or with his inability to appropriately subordinate himself to group goals (over self-involved goals) ... if he provoked concern over intentions regarding other group members... what ~else~ might he be less than forthcoming about...?
.
He manifested such a twisted morass of bile, hatred, loathing, and corrosive envy... in my opinion... continuing on with the association as it stood was approaching impossibility.  It occurred to me that if we took one more step on the path as was outlined, trusting people were going to be roped into jumping through Mortellaro's senseless hoops like abused third-worlders, "AlienViews" was going to be put on freaking cigarette lighters, and a significant disservice (in the form of a distorted cant) was going to be done to aggregate ufology!  It seemed like people might get hurt, too...
.
Meanwhile, the rest of us would be so wrapped up in guilt and assumed responsibility that escape would be a lot more difficult, if not impossible!  I put my foot down and began indicating that some "rethinking" of our charter was made necessary.  Essentially, I pulled the throttles back as we were lurching down the runway for takeoff, below minimums...
.
Why didn't I, finally, just bail altogether... right there?
.
...We were doing magic, folks...
.
We were (I thought) a synergistic bunch with a thrilling ability to complement one another!  I thought we were more than the sum of our parts!
.
We were talking to key people and asking them questions they'd never been asked before... we were recording history, and making it to a degree!  It was Nirvana while it was working, when everything was in balance... ...before our organizational dynamic was blithely trifled with by the Doctor...  ...It was heaven.  We (I?) felt like we were DOING something, eh?  We were TEAM!
.
If I said it once to Dr. Mortellaro I said it a thousand times—because it came up a thousand times— "Jim, stop trying to filter me, moderate me, edit me, lead me, channel me, direct me, ...or control me."  I was quite clear in that regard.  There was no need for it in the first place, and our association didn't start with that understanding in the second... Still, I was senselessly and needlessly moderated more on (and off) the "AlienViews" message board (a board where I was a principal!) than any other list, blog, newsgroup, or bulletin-board with which I've ever been associated.  Real irony, all by itself, forgetting that it was he demonstrating the need for moderation in numerous episodes of the, in my opinion, thoughtless and insulting mal-intellectual hip-shooting he practiced, clearly pointed out to him by other group principals and myself.  One such occurred when he was admonished by a named guest on the AlienViews II internet radio program taping for referring to Arabs as "rag-heads".
.
The named guest, a once highly regarded David Jacobs may recall the episode, and good for him for calling attention to it, spot on, and demonstrating ethical consistency regardless whatever one may feel on the subject of Arabs.  Seems Doctor Jacobs had more compassion for Arabs than his research subjects, but I digress.
.
Dr. Mortellaro, oddly, given his education and alleged experience, was provincial and naive with regard to this and many other human relations subjects, in my opinion, and in the unsolicited opinion of the other Group principals, also.  I recall, I covered for him... out of the reflex of my manipulated programming I suppose... on that occasion, too!  I tried to cover for a rank bigot.  Another regret.
.
The preceding was just one public example of the verbal gaffs that were uttered to list members and guests that were found insensitive, insulting, angering, humiliating, and without empathy, aspect, or intelligence.  Numerous times I felt required to post, like I might have for a developmentally disabled older brother, "what the Doctor really meant was...," in an effort to pull his thoughtless fat out of the resultant and frequent fire.  I carried him for months...
.
Moving on, Dr. Mortellaro, in the aggregate, contributed his very *dodgy* claims and the interest in him that these claims provoked, only.  Oh, plus one other thing...
.
Dr. Mortellaro's not unpleasant baritone was the "voice" of AlienViews internet radio.  Rationally, and as a sensible result of his alleged experience, "Letters," and "personable" manner, he was made the "titular" head, the "honorary" front man, of the now defunct "AlienViews Group."  A tragic act, as it turned out!
.
The stipulation "titular" was altogether lost on the good Doctor (despite vociferous reminders by myself and others that this was so!).  It went right to his head.
.
Dr. Mortellero, was not a leader, by any means.  As a senior officer in military training schools where I trained whole corps of  "leaders", and taught the basics of competent and efficacious leadership... my opinion here might have some extra weight.  I know leaders or leadership and have leaders as friends.  The "doctor" was no "leader."
.
It is understatement to say that his behavior during the period was the cause of MUCH consternation in the group.  Moreover, it destroyed our magical synergistic group dynamic I alluded to earlier.
.
Mortellaro saw himself as the star of the show (we joked about it!)... soon he was escalating his completely imagined supervisory capacity, deciding choices, formulating "secret" business plans, giving thoughtless instructions, making pointless decisions, publishing futile marching orders, and criticizing web site and show production infrastructure like he knew what he was doing or talked about.
.
He, decidedly, absolutely, and assuredly, did not!  Dr. Mortellaro, though (one finds), was not one to let any lack of competence stop him or slow him down in any way.
.
I'd mentioned that he was the voice of "AlienViews"... and he was, forgetting that he should have left it right there, and didn't...  All he was, patient reader, was the voice, and an introductory one, only, at that; it became clear. He provided no real content.
.
In as much as the entire AlienView group was, as seen by the Doctor, a vehicle for his own self-interest and self-promotion, it's ironic that he didn't contribute anything to show research or even focus on the on-air guest as would be expected, but rather used any conversational opportunity to steer the conversation back on the subject of himself, pointing out (embarrassingly, de-railingly, and boringly) where what was being talked about could be viewed as how it applied to him and his experience... so as to remain the center of the attention he coveted.
.
He didn't listen to the guests, at all, during the interview (just awaited another opportunity to pontificate?)... as was evidenced by his frequently asking a question of the guest that had just been asked and laboriously answered.  Indeed it seemed he had no respect for the guest outside the value of that guest as a mechanism for his own self-promotion (as evidenced by him flushing the toilet in his home "studio" or playing with his dog, on the air...).  On one occasion during a show that he had to do, "on the road," he was striking up conversations with passers-by on the street while the guest was... talking if you can believe it!
.
Sincerely, most of Dr. Mortellaro must have ended up on the cutting room floor.  I have 26 hours of RealAudio files (that will likely never see the light of day) where the good doctor can be heard doing just what I've described!  Astonishingly, I thought it was eccentric and even endearing at the time (!), when what it really was, in hindsight, was oblivious self-interest, utter un-professionalism, and clueless incompetence... in my considered opinion.
.
Towards the end of our association Dr. Mortellaro made to quite clear that he was more willing to pursue his own agenda of unstated self-involved goals and fail, rather than subordinate himself, appropriately I add, to the stated (decidedly loftier, less corporate, and more "theme" centered) goals of the group (what we'd gleefully started with...) and succeed.
.
I spoke up for an end to reflex (and unsupported!) hatred of other persons in the ufological community and a return to our balanced earlier association, a retreat from the business-oriented model of Dr. Mortellaro's nearly hijacked AlienViews Group effort, and a wider view of the group in general, requiring Dr. Mortellaro's removal as even titular "head."
.
Dr. Mortellaro, like any emotional juvenile, requiring too much supervision, moderation, direction, and external motivation for a man over 60... hit the vaulted ceiling!
.
Frankly—by this time—he was no longer trusted to do the right thing on line and on the list, was incapable of responding to constructive criticism (...late for virtually every group meeting he ever called), and could not consistently follow the path agreed to in the group.  He would dictate insentient policy, legislate unthinking, unnecessary, and unenforceable rules, proclaim silly, mawkish, and embarrassing "press releases" or initiate senseless polls.  I could easily have sent a note home to his parents... "Jimmy has delusions of grandeur, and does not work or play well with others."
.
I'd mentioned that the Doctor was incapable of accepting criticism... positive or negative.  He "didn't understand", "didn't get it..." and preferred to console himself with personal fables that he was being "picked on"... that he was being persecuted by "enemies" that he thought had been his "friends"... that this writer "was incapable of taking orders from a boss" (orders? boss?), ...and that he "~was~" AlienViews...."
.
These were all un-clever and convenient observations given that it was friendly criticism, he chose not to acknowledge it.  I was a career Army officer well documented as to be able to take or give competent orders, and he was not, and had never been, competent to be my "boss," nor had I ever signed on for same!  He never, even at the start, had earned that trust and confidence.  That he "was" Alien Views..." just demonstrates how far off the actual beam he was—hints at his unjustified, and suspicion provoking megalomania... it would seem.
.
By July of 2003, the doctor was overdrawn at my idiosyncratic bank.  I'd had quite enough.
.
Moreover, in as much as the evolving details of Dr. Mortellaro's aggregate abduction claims seemed (in my opinion) to actualize only after the details of it had already surfaced elsewhere in the community, that he was a coattail moocher and flagrant appropriator of opportunities not his own from UFO UpDates through Jeff Rense and Budd Hopkins to "WorldWideRenaissance" and beyond... That no hard evidence has ever surfaced with regard to Doctor Mortellaro that didn't have a fishy provenance existing anywhere... but with something that he could have brought about on his own... contrived himself.
.
...This includes groin injuries (soldiers shoot themselves in the foot to go home), forged documents possibly indicating same, possibly seeded car parts at the "abduction site" to be found later by Budd Hopkins... a witness willing to sign an affidavit that the doctor was sucked up into a mother-ship in a silent blue beam... the guileless validation by abduction researchers impressed by the wealth of evidence suggested, that associates a lettered professional person with law enforcement, police records, 911 calls, the interest of a prestigious New York medical community performing a study of the abduction phenomenon...?  We could go on and on...
.
These are the smoke and mirrors, it could be interpreted, of a potential fraud!
.
Could it be argued that there is too ~much~ corroborating evidence, and all of it too damned pat? Yes, frankly.  Budd Hopkins was, by report, thrilled with him initially.
.
In as much as the good Doctor has made it clear beyond all doubt that he intended to profit as a result of the prosecution of his claims (and assuming fraud for the purposes of argument?), an ethical line, if ~not~ a criminal one, could conceivably be breached...  I wanted no part of ~that~.
.
Be that as it may... considering hindsight, singular provenance, one man's observation of the Doctor in action, and his observed, in my opinion, easy betrayal and crass and calculating manipulations of his "friends"... I found myself unwilling to keep the faith that was required to continue to validate, or support, his tangled claims.  Doctor Mortellaro, a living imposition and much like a human prion (in my opinion)—hijacking the machinery of healthy cells adjacent to him into reproducing his bile spewing, hate driven, and baldly self-involved DNA... is not supported by me.
.
So, why does Mortellaro need to be taken down on this issue, in my opinion?  Why can't we just live and let live?  ...Let sleeping dogs lie...?  ...Call it a wash...?
.
Dr. Mortellaro positioned himself to be a major player on the ufological scene, and ~my~ perception is that ~that~ positioning was afforded only by a ham-handed duplicity (consciously or unconsciously) woven by a person educated in the art of putting the *right* spin on "the product for SALE," bluntly! Dr. Mortellaro was that product, in my opinion.
.
Thinking he understood the "target audience" or "customer base" (the principals of the ufological community and so then the whole ufological community) he's packaged himself, gaudily (if ~not~ that successfully), as its newest poster-boy.  The impression that he tried to generate and convey is that he has an earned Doctorate in the sciences, is the focus of demonstrable occurrences of the highly strange, has the respectful attention of, then, world class abduction researchers, is in regular contact with and frequently (...and oh so *bravely*...) struggles with aliens unquestionably ~evil~ in design, intent, and orientation... hoo-rah!
.
Moreover, (as long as it suits his ego-driven purposes and self-involved agenda) he is a virtual fountain of abduction empathy and doting compassion... the calm, smooth-talking ufological father you never had... who has "been there," and "done that" ... a "heroic pinnacle" in our, mainstream maligned, paranormal movement...  Right.
.
Steaming monkey paffle, patient reader.  Don't buy the smallest part of it.
.
His doctorate, if real has the narrow scope of a predatory 19th Century "business major", with all the scorn, distrust, and provoked disgust that can be heaped on that discounted and invalidated ethic. Dangerous Provinciality has a name and its name is "business major...".  The Doctor's claim that he is the focus of the highly strange, with all its attendant evidences, police involvements, medical audit trails, sworn affidavits, and radio appearances still has the provenance of that high strangeness coming from himself, only.  It seems to be evolving and becoming more detailed over time, and finally broke the credulity of this once close supporter!
.
The respectful attention of world-class researchers is countered by their innocent acceptance in taking the good doctor at his word regarding his own testimony and recollections... given a seeming mass of corroborating evidence actually too good to be true!  His brave struggles with "evil mantis-beings" were, for my current money, self-congratulatory celebrations of a personality that's yet to advance much past the science fictions of the 1950's... spun up to play in the 21st century!  His empathy and compassion (like the empathy and compassion of other right-wing extremists) are mere glad-handing and soft-soaping... ornamentation used to defray suspicion of his motives and give the "mark" the comfortable warm and fuzzies facilitating ease of control.  This man was no hero, he's a dead-ended path, a needless ufological detour, or an invisible hurdle cum snare on same.  It is very unlikely that he has "been there," and even more unlikely that he's "done that..." That's my read, at any rate...
.
Could I be wrong about Dr. Mortellaro?  Of course!  My opinion, sir or madam, that a manipulative corporate "turn-around guy" with a nose for product enhancement and the minimal sense to flesh out an audit trail... might be just the person able to convincingly fabricate a first-rate hoax... shouldn't raise anyone's hackles (...even the good "doctor's"!!!) that much.  It's just "business"... right.  Feh.
.
What does he expect?  I'm just one opinion, after all.  Mortellaro might still be genuine... Water, by report, has been turned into wine, at least once, in the last 2000 years!  A good Catholic, Mort would testify to that. Anything is possible, however unlikely... improbable, doubtful, implausible, dubious, dodgy, or suspect.
.
UFOs are real.  Alien Abduction is another un-admitted reality of some type... my confidence in the actuality of these things remains unshaken.  My faith (and faith was required) in the good doctor has suffered a decisive hull-breach; however, and it's important to me to go on the public record, now, and make it clear that I (who once provided ~complete~ support) shall no longer be counted as one who believes "Dr." Mortellaro, at all.
.
I decidedly, absolutely, and most definitely, do not.  Please allow ~this~ correction to the record.  File under fecal swine as they're known.

Explains All Reticence!

.
.
.
Everywhere are UFOs to saturate the news! They're written into histories we didn't hide or lose. They're tied to an environment that evolves beyond the *few* to an efficacious living that is right for me; I bet, you too!
.
They're hinted in psychologyphilosophy, etiology. They define much more exquisitely... provide for serendipity. They'll turn your world inside out; that's something to be glad about!  You find that there's adjacent thinking, responsibility from which we're shrinking, strange potentials we ignore not circumspect to what's in store.
.
See, floating in your airy castle, crashing down ~is~ such a hassle!  Still, you erected in that air the plans of psychos preying there!  ...And you're the prey you come to find, your house, your health... your fate consigned.  Beholden to some Koch-like ilk, polluted down to mother's milk, these are persons, "minds made up," who tell you "what to *do*." Enough!
.
These don't refrain and will propound that we must wear "creation's crown." Though, we are NOT the "dead lock nut" to stake our claim beyond our rut... of that which we shall not admit—denial, and we're steeped in it!
.
Around us monstrous rocks abound, are coasting in their dance, we've found, a threat to us right here on Earth, a MAYHEM like our God's own curse!  Yet, see it through a different filter to see it like they're ship precursors, ships of humans living where they'd seed the solar belt that's there!  A living bracelet for our star... a Ringworld, almost!  There you are!  Reach and grasp become as one, humanity at last begun!  Not so presently, we digress for superstition's sad largesse.
.
We're herded like mere brainless chickens clucking scratchy faked pretensions: WE have lit this torch of *light*, to strive for *God*, and *Truth*, and *Right*... ...but nothing's further from the truth, we stand unmasked, too proud—obtuse. Too proud by far—our small advancement loses its *attached* enhancement... ...as we find we're mewling infants... ...wallowing in filth, contented.
.
Edit all our moldy tomes for evidence THEY keep alone... Read their works of snide derision; accusing us of imprecision.  Peppered speech of fallacy must prove ones thoughts have callused knees. Dredged-up *phacts* all out of context; cited like they'd have no pretext; these hide behind their noxious nyms like soulless imps or evil men...
.
These, spewing proof they have no stone; that they’re the pest (and not alone!).  Mere errant bugs who suck the blood of spirit they misunderstood!
.
Hear their message, hear their lie... that you see nothing in your sky.  Laugh at a conspiracy; pretend that YOU'RE not on your knees; denying scales afflicting eyes to masturbate a fear contrived.
.
Fix your eyes on starry skies, and watch the blackness you've despised. Time is what you witness there—time enough and more to spare! Moons and planets, gassy clouds, cosmic dust—there is no doubt... ...Beings from space look back t'wards you, and wonder that you're there—it's true.
.
Energy exists in time, the frequency we see—a rhyme. Power's found at zero points? We've fossil farts! We're out of joint!
.
Too busy with our "ethnic cleansing" we strut and preen in strife unending, holding out for just a few... what blessings grace elitist's views.
.
I
n our histories it's been written, we turn our eyes away—we're smitten. Too much truth there slaps our faces filling holes and gaps or spaces.
.
What we cannot cop to yet, and where our bloated hubris rests, are questions on our *lofty* status, what we now accept, free gratis! Banking on old Aristotle—forgetting as a footnote, Plato—still buried in his "crystal spheres" containing what we choose to fear.
.
Wrapped in *blessings* of a church that hates the world as "devil cursed," we pillage, rape and pour abuse on that which NURTURES!  It's SO abstruse!  Craven morons steer the ship, the dummies brown so full of it; they take on faith what cannot be and bring us all to bloody knees.
.
No, UFOs are everything! From ancient times they wail and sing. Through the years they've shown themselves, we've pictures, film we've stacked on shelves. Anecdotes abound in waves, from Presidents without disgrace, to airline captains coming clean—these craft are NOT a specious dream!
.
I, myself, have had some sightings. They're not balloons, and gas or lightning—UFOs are everywhere, they "wash your clothes," they "set your hair"!  They've watched us through our trying times; they've likely got our history, Clyde!
.
And there's the rub—explains all reticence. This is why *we'd* hide the evidence. We're afraid we’d be found out—that all would KNOW what we're about!  Atrocity would be laid bare!  Sturm and drang!  Outraged despair!  The blame can deftly be assigned—men hanging from their wires find...
.
UFOs? They ~are~ sedition and threaten all ones *prized* traditions.  In this I take some satisfaction, as much *tradition's* ...putrefaction.

Everybody has questions to answer. The more one manipulates and controls the "game" the more questions one should have to answer!  Anything else is excused tyranny or a clear and present danger of same.  The more one holds themselves up as an example to the world of compassion, intelligence and decency, and profits for same, the more examination one should be able to sustain!

Our culture abuses its societal privileges. In the interests of a "Focus on the *Family*," "National *Security*," or a "return to traditional *values*" there hides an ingrained impetus so rich with arbitrariness, unfairness, and unethical practice ...it can scarcely be acceptably believed. I suspect we be better advised believing it... sooner's better.

The awful imperative drive, unfortunately, is to maintain a status quo so ridiculously canted that it is actually beyond the limits of rational sensibility, eh?  Verily, we're so organically *dirty* now that the mere admission of these derelictions and travesties explodes the status quo like it was a cheap penny balloon. I suspect this does not go un-noticed by penny balloons, everywhere...

*Folks* from space... watching, recording, and perhaps even manipulating our ancient four million year old advance from the African Savanna... would have quite a tale to tell—told as it was from their perhaps unjaundiced "Alien View."

I'd sure like to hear that story, wouldn't you? Heh! All the news that fits, and that's all the news.

Innocence Is Innocence, And Honor? Honor!

Innocence Is Innocence, And Honor?  Honor!

As if they themselves were the victims of a coercive telepath, people I otherwise respect want to give Dr. David Jacobs a forgiving *by*—a get out of jail free card—for some pretty turbid professional transgressions.  Moreover, they would treat Ms "Emma Woods" as an "obsessive nut-ball" or "shrill and psychotic harridan," a woman only grasping for attention and smearing the "good Doctor's" name... and by extension the memory of the even more revered Budd Hopkins.  Seems nothing could be further from the truth.

Firstly, my problems with Mr. Hopkins included his stuffy authoritarianism plus his steadfast and unwavering support of David Jacobs, even after the fact of Jacobs' revealed chicanery. His rejection of ready science on his "Intruders" board contributed to my unease, but it is Hopkins' inexplicable support where Jacobs was so profoundly—so demonstrably reader—dirty, you know?   I also offer also that not much is lost vis a vis Hopkins' legacy, given Hopkins big three cases, Copley Woods, Linda Cortile and finally Jim Mortellaro, were all wild blueberry horse muffins wholly discredited by adjacent researchers George Hansen, Raymond Fowler, Carol Rainy... et sig al!

These are quality observers, intrepid documentarians, adroit writer/researchers—folks not associated with the mal-gravid and reflex debunkery of a tanked "CSI."  In other words, these are persons not so hardwired to the sometimes errant and reflexive "prosaic/mundane." No, they are named persons of good reputation reasonably open to complicating a hypothesis where required—finding zebras in the place of horses where appropriate! These Doyens shoot massive holes in the narrative and veracity of Hopkins "Big Three" cases!  In the third case referenced above, Mortellaro, I was at ground zero for that fiasco and I can report that it, and Mortellaro, turned out to be a real steaming pile of diseased yak heave, personally, not the Mushroom Cloud of enlightenment proposed, but I digress.  More on this "case" in my next post...

The preceding remains an eye-opener for me ...and cold winds blow through dreaded halls lit only by flickering exit signs in the dead of night... See, it remains that history would show Hopkins' "big three cases" are all entirely bupkis as pointed out.  Insult to injury, David Jacobs exposes himself as a self-admitted monster (no really, not so stealthily self-admitted to George Knapp on Coast To Coast AM) as pointed out previously.
.
Additionally, I have been speaking with Emma Woods for many years now and she invariably strikes me as a remarkably sane, ironically demure, inordinately strong, and a very intelligent woman who just won't suffer a flaccid psychopath's cheesy foot on her throat. A karmic pox on David Jacobs, eh, and too bad about the "memory" of Bud Hopkins.  He drew that card, himself.

Sadly, I perceive that David Jacobs and his sullen old authoritarian mentor, Budd Hopkins, have an idiosyncratic credit with persons apart from myself—credit I once shared—that plunges to worthlessness for me when Jacobs is observed "committing" the betraying "crime" that he perpetrated on a reasonably trusting Woods, in full view and for the record extant!... and walking blithely away without regard or concern... while Hopkins, thinking only of his own legacy apparently, doubles down for him in an intellectually insulting defense beneath concern, apart from consideration, and beyond all contempt... for this writer anyway.

I say this having once loved Hopkins and Jacobs, myself, as bona fide—so intrepid—explorers and relevant warriors... verily... ...but Jacobs made his own "bed of record." ...And for the ardent supporter of Hopkins?  Well, I submit they themselves never travailed to sail South of Uncle Budd in respectful disagreement like I did in an issue of UFO Magazine. He could get, angrydismissive and nasty, eh, when you didn't hold to party line.

You know what I'm betting?  Jacobs' supporters have never, no, not one time, ever, talked with Emma Woods—listened to her—heard her story!  Moreover, they must errantly disregard the massive and well vetted recorded evidentiary pathway freely provided.  This audit trail of Jacobs' malfeasance is not faked, confabulated and contrived as is accused by the. Given the preceding, how can these "supporters" of an errant Jacobs then speak to her "obsessiveness"... and "stalking behavior"?!?

Forget for a moment she's on the other side of the freaking world and can be wholly, and very safely, ignored!  Reader, the evidence convinces me that Jacobs intellectually "raped" her, he mind-f**ked her actually, and when she caught wise of what he was doing?  She balked!

It was then the good doctor decided he couldn't otherwise profit from her... he could be argued to cut his loses and then betray her with professional malfeasance, whisper campaigning, and the seeming antithesis of professional best practice... Think, reader, how convenient it would have been for "Emma Woods" to have actually taken the psychotropic drugs Jacobs suggested she take "of needs.". Then she could be a shrill psychotic and grasping harridan... on psychotropic drugs.  This seems abundantly clear to any person willing to see trees for forest, eh?

Consider... Over the long haul, I've come to understand Emma Woods. And she's not that hard to understand... See, a similar slanderous kind of thing happened to me vis a vis one Rich Reynolds and his baseless libel of me... and does anybody want to discuss my "obsessiveness" and "stalking behavior" in a public forum as regards Rich Reynolds and his egregious and unrepentant crimes effecting me?   Mmmmmm-no?

Good... because I'll happily eat your literary face.

No! I will pursue and responsibly harass Rich Reynolds until I get effusive and unabashed apologies and seven figures in "slander per se" damages! Remember he smeared my reputation and the reputation of my son of the same name... ...maybe a future embarrassment to my granddaughters! In a more enlightened time I would have cut him to pieces in a duel!  The "court of public opinion" remains the only tool for the remotest recompense regarding that affair... I digress too far.

Still, "Emma Woods," I offer, is cut from a similar if more refined yard of cloth. There is nothing obsessive in even diligent activity leading to the righteous restoration of your own self-respect and sense of self, personal attributes stolen by a legion seeming psychopaths in "Emma's" case, "well meaning" or not. It's not stalking behavior campaigning to right an egregious wrong... ...this is important!  Innocence Is Innocence!  Honor is honor restored!

Is it important enough to risk ones place in the history, valued friendships, even banishment and expulsion from a "respected" community... which has already occurred.  Where it comes to justice for just one of the innocent and hugely wronged, the valued memory of Budd Hopkins or extended idiosyncratic credit for David Jacobs is not worth the price of a pissant's shoeshine.  Hopkins is deceased and can be remembered for his contribution to art, frankly (a good thing), where Jacobs has his pension, any savings, and social security partly funded by an erstwhile corrosive publishing initiative.  He's done Culture no favors.  He might consider his luck, now, stepping down, off, and away.  Why, he might just drop out of sight while the dropping's good.

For myself, I'm driven to this expressed opinion by the observed self-interested cruelties of the late Budd Hopkins and a presently smirking David Jacobs with his legion of hoodwinked, biased, and conflicted supporters.  I see myself in Emma Woods.  My literary sword leaves its scabbard compelled and of needs.  I'd appreciate it done for me.

To those with panties inordinately wadded by the criticism of a deceased person unable to speak in their own defense: there's no dearth of dauntless defenders!  Step up!  Provide your "defense." Justify your blithe, burdensome and banal psychopathy to me.

Read on.

Fluffing The Abduction Rubes

David Jacobs has recently risen once again from his moldy crypt of deleterious ufological retrograde to appear on the increasingly irrelevant George Noory version of Coast To Coast AM, a program so insipid and cognitively bereft that Art Bell has ordered the program to stop mentioning his name as a historical taproot or fellow... and to which I'd long canceled this writer's subscription.

Among the highlights of the, in my opinion entirely disingenuous, appearance:

o... Noory welcoming Jacobs back onto the show, and remarking that everywhere he goes, people bring Jacobs up, and that it’s always a positive note...

How can this be remotely true?  It certainly appears to this writer that Dr. Jacobs is clearly heard on audiotape coveting soiled undergarments he has otherwise once admitted shall not be scientifically processed in any way due to lack of pro-Bono funds to make that exploration. Then, injury on top of insult, Jacobs suggests the use of medieval devices of sexual torture he would have supplied, himself!

Lastly, for the third egregious strike and sans all training or efficacious/professional best practice behavior, this "edge history teacher" has the withering audacity to suggest to a certifiably sane fellow human being in his "care" and in a "suggestible state" that she is dangerously psychotic (!), requires heavy sedation with numbing psychotropic drugs, and should be in intensive psychiatric care?    No one has a "negative" note!?  Well, here are three right in this paragraph.

o... That his book is coming out next year...

Oh good, another fear-mongering tome to titillate a credulous base unaware of the controversy swirling around "Instant Message" hypnosis sessions demonstrably leading a subject with its invented histories and suggestive scenarios... as ridiculous as they are illogical and as inaccurate as they are salacious.  Such seems to be so.  It sells, at any rate.

o... That he thinks he is “doing it right”... ...and Noory agreeing with him...

How can he be doing anything "right" given that he is not trained at all in the procedure he uses to retrieve memory: hypnotic regression, and where that hypnotic regression is soundly discredited as a retrieval device by learned persons academically lettered in the psychologies discussed? Fringe gets a NEW flavor and the receipts are obvious!

o...  That he always keeps his subjects’ confidentiality and he has never betrayed it...

How can this remotely be believed where Dr. Jacobs is, one, on tape betraying the confidence of one subject to another subject (ie discussing subjects with other subjects is my read), and two, discussing embarrassing details, disparaging from his privileged position as regards one Emma Woods, on Nation-wide radio (The same Coast To Coast program but with George Knapp), and too many Podcasts to easily count!  Not a WORD of "cease and desist" from the good doctor at the slanders and baseless cat-calls of anonymous trolls, named personalities, and bullying Jacobs fan-boys.  This is over a period of years, now, largely a result of her refusal to stay down after being done a significant wrong. I applaud her sincerity and her courage and support same.

o...  That all his subjects say the same thing and don’t know that his other subjects are saying it (his usual outright disingenuousness...)

Review this writer's immediately preceding comment!  Moreover, a woman can't be criticized for taking steps to recapture stolen self-respect, especially when that self-respect is and has been so inappropriately discounted,  or why are women worth but seventy cents on the dollar when experience only shows they can be a bargain at $3.50?

o...  That his new book will offer changes to how we view the subject...

Based on "what," covering "what," and about "what"? Given the damage to the field already done with his very demonstrable professional betrayals and professional malfeasance?  His easy conjectures and grand leaps?  His gross professional audit illogics and lack of all conscientious perspicaciousness?  His meandering consistency and easy mean-spiritedness.  His bland and complacent salaciousness. BLEAUGH!

o...  That he prides himself on doing the best style of questioning imaginable, and how what he gets from it all leads in one direction...

How is this possible where his extant record shows only bleary interrogation skills corrupted by an entirely unsupported fear-mongering agenda, a decidedly incompetent style of witness-leading questions, THEN a bloated sense of self-worth and field efficaciousness... if not rooking psychopathy...

o...  That his new book will provide a new taxonomy of hybrids and aliens...

Based on what science or evidentiary pathway, vetted testimony, or adjacent support?  One would suspect that such taxonomy might be better jerked whole cloth from the prolapsed paranormal pore of a patent pin-head promulgating an especially patent portentousness, eh? THAT!  ...Not even good science fiction, reader!

o...  That his book will show that the alien take-over of the planet has happened in lots of other places too...

Uh-huh... words signifying exactly bupkis even if words of a slickly glabrous, so sickening effulgence. A FOX News or OAN for the "Abduction" milieu! The slick of oil on a dead fish's lips at low tide, tiny crabs dancing in rainbows cast in an obliging shaft of sunlight.  A cloud looms...

o...  That he is a historian, not a scientist, and making a joke that he is always reminded of that (and Noory snickering)...

Perhaps not a "scientist," sure, but a Ph.D. from an accredited University should still be well aware of the rules of science and evidence, logic or critical thinking, and compiling a substantive history based on a science of history, eh?  Dr. Jacobs does not even possess these skills, it would seem!

o...  That he first went into the history of anti-communism because he was fascinated by newspaper articles saying that the Russians used beautiful young women to lure men into the party, and he snickered that, “Gosh, well maybe it was worth it!” He says that he then went into doing his Ph.D. on the image of women in film. However, he says that he changed it to the controversy over UFOs. (Very illuminating ... )

One would think that a predatory sexual proclivity might pervade or intrude on a raison d'être for "career motivation" ...and wonder if young women saw an over-representation in an "Abduction study's"
Sine qua non for obvious reasons...  Do they?  Victim self-delivery?

o... That he now has only one interest, which is staying alive (presumably still evading the hybrids)

Maybe he suspects he'll slide into a well-earned hell upon his passing like all good psychopaths, one would hope, and so fears death for that reason...

o...  That he is evolving a theory that aliens download their knowledge, essence, soul, into hybrids, and reincarnate themselves into the hybrids on earth that way, which he will elaborate on in his new book.

Well, at least we'll have that to look forward to, eh?  More baseless conjecture, fatuous thesis devolution, and forgetting any juvenile chubby-bunching on psycologicaly purloined bumpy bits...

Paranormal Argle-Bargle seemingly erudite but dispersing like smoke upon examination?

I recall a recent Facebook exchange between Errol Bruce-Knapp and John Velez in which the question came up about why John Mack was the only one of the three investigators who got reincarnation reports from his abductees. John said he'd call Jacobs to find out.  Later, he's back on the page reporting to the readership that Jacobs vehemently denied ever, ever getting abductees who reported reincarnation—and that the late Budd Hopkins never did, either! John took Jacobs word for fact and suggested words to the effect that Mack may have misrepresented or misinterpreted his subjects' reports of reincarnation.  I have to observe that Mack, a Harvard Psychiatric Chair and Pulitzer prize winner, never presented the vapid disingenuousness for which Jacobs, in his own words, seems truly legendary, himself!

See, now we hear from Jacobs, that aliens have found a way to concretize both "essence" and "soul" and, by downloading these digitized vagaries into the earthbound hybrids, the aliens themselves are becoming reincarnations! Tilt!

Did Jacobs just make this stuff up or did he get it from his abductees? If he's not making it up, he apparently got it from hypnotized subjects and has been less than truthful with John Velez about never getting reports of reincarnation, eh?  That's a big WTF, right there.

o...  That he is desperate to get his hands on alien or hybrid DNA to study, and jokingly asking a caller to get him some.

That's a lie...  There are geneticists standing in line to provide legitimate protocols for just that kind of study with persons that Dr. Jacobs has identified himself as likely hybrids! Well, one geneticist anyway... ...Dr. Jacobs?  Let me introduce you to Dr. Tyler Kokjohn!

o... Noory thanking Jacobs for everything that he has done in the field, and says that Jacobs’ new book is coming out soon...

Yeah... thanks for so much "nothing" it remains paradoxically round, firm, and fully packed like an impacted paranormal colon.

So ends this episode of the continuing saga of David "Severus Psychopath" Jacobs and his "messaging" hybrids.  Stay non-tuned!

...First You Have To Look!

.
.
.
...Explaining lack of *comment* on these explicative ravings? I understand completely, but declare: I'll let the reader read the work refined from honest observation, and be content to publish what I'd dare.
.
...Troubled by the nuanced words some writers use as paint? It's easy, now, to know them; understanding makes you faint! E-lectronic fingers? A word is quick to find. ...And its meaning is that lightning flash to light the idling mind! No, really! The cost is but a mouse-click and a word is vivisected, parsed to crystal clarity, all declensions well dissected. Remains, one faces understanding where a truth's illuminated and sometimes truth's too hard to face, the right word used as stated...
.
Don't call it "ostentation." That *inflation* that you see? It's packed with eager muscle of a mean solidity! It shall not take a "prisoner" or turn the other cheek, but too, it's not mendacious... That's for "klassists,"—scuts and sneaks.
.
I don't require comment, but my words might be refined, and comment can be leavening for the cake's rise, I confide.  I have a MIND I must defer to, and what MATTERs most to me is an efficacious MOVEMENT that I sense must SURELY be!
.
Matter?  It's the stuff that's made, contrived reality. It "drys out" as we watch it; it transforms to energy.
.
Movement is the time you take to get from "here to there"; it *vibrates* with intensity—makes room for things, mon frere!
.
With all of this considered by the hyper-spacial Mind, one makes provoked appraisals on the twitchy *stuff* one finds.
.
And therein lies the problem... ...if we make things disappear: ideas, books, or people... in our search for things to fear.  Soon we're left then choiceless, and robotic Status Quos... shall level out life's value with the nonsense they propose.
.
We find we're watching, frightfully, those things that we have made ... forgetting we have made them from the debts that we don't pay! ...And they torment and they vex us as the pillage piles high so just a few can live like gods... if jaded ones, despised.

.,¸¸,.»§«,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.»§«***»§«,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.»§«·.,¸¸,.

See, *things* we watch for "changes"
become constructive kinds of *things*
from the *things* unwatched for changes—
it's the watching that's the thing!

.,¸¸,.»§«,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.»§«***»§«,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.»§«·.,¸¸,.
.
...Dismissed then, saucer hunters, or your garden abductee; dismissed, the individual who might search for what he needs! ...But leave the wolves right in your midst, "klasskurtxian embroilers," who complicate the issues as foul character destroyers!
.
Yeah, pay to trust your doctor who would turn his eyes away as his brother doctors pillage you for debt he's sworn to pay.  Trust the "men in blue," too much, to keep an easy peace, and find they are too powerful—watch tyranny increase!  Put your faith in Jesus to achieve no absolution! Too, know the curse of strife and toil from his corrupted institutions.
.
You're getting the idea, now, the point I've tried to make: "agency" morphs to "entity."  Institutions?  On the take.
.
We'd wish for easy answers at the bottom dollar price. We want to have our morals, but we want to keep our vice. We want to keep our fortunes, strike the homeless from our sight, quibble on the Holocaust, and over NOTHING, fight!
.
Do you understand the problem? Do you want another hint? I'd use a verbal brickbat though I bloodied you with it! Life's a kind of "banquet," and you reap what you have sown. You sow your seeds in "air," my friend? Then away they've surly flown.
.
...Here's an observation, with admitted barbs or hooks: if YOU expect to FIND some *thing*, then first you have to LOOK!

We, humanity extant, don't look. I try, you might ... but "WE" don't. Don't pretend that we do. It only increases the eventual crushing humiliation of a prefered ignorance bearing down on us like an iron asteroid.

Additionally, whatever "it" is, it won't be anything like you thought it would be, get ready for that. It won't be announced! There will be no news at eleven! No Meet The Press! The public trust is too betrayed by same to countenance that!

It won't be found in prescribed literature of ANY stripe, only the proscribed literature if at all. It won't be found in the editorialization, any forced submission, or the silencing of the uncomfortable idea. Rather—consider what makes the new idea "uncomfortable."

Your *conviction* regarding ANY matter, perhaps, may be so much specious nonsense. Maybe. You'll never know but for the exposure to it, or a testing OF it, eh?

... Just one more way to lift the veil from our evidential, historical, and very reasonably conjectured *UFOs*.

Restore John Ford...

"UFO's In Particular"

The ostensibly "serious" and "respected" learned...

UFOs In Particular
by Alfred Lehmberg
(From UFOM Vol 24 #5)

The ostensibly "serious" and "respected" learned of our torrid and anxious community decries the "carnival atmosphere" of studies "paranormal" in general and UFOs in particular. These persons aforementioned—self-assured that they are at the cutting edge of reasonable entelechy— (1) bemoan the tolerated huckster. They (2) lament the lack of qualified peer review. They (3) weep regarding the "provoked disinterest of mainstream science." Finally, (4) they rather toothlessly bewail the incorrigibly inconsistent and even damaging protocols employed by suspicious "amateurs" in the field.  "How dare they," eh?

This is just to start a list of grievances provided to illustrate why the study of Flying Saucers (sic) never seems to get off the ground. I sympathize to a point, though... are we not ready to begin to admit to the massive and more problematical enchilada?

See, these "respected learned" remain, I contend, to point at the mere symptoms of the "diseases" they dismissively criticize and decry—as will be submitted in this essay—thinking they point out, understand, and identify the disease itself. No! I offer that they do not.  Not convincingly.  Not substantively.  Not remotely.

No, these concern themselves with visible symptoms of such, extant—typified by the proceeding four essay-mapped complaints above—all this while the not admitted and so undetected disease remains free and unencumbered to manufacture even more regressive symptoms!

Consider first that "tolerated huckster." These seem so belligerently numerous they require no citation and have required none such for years. They are legion seemingly.

All have their personal favorites, from Billy Meier through Steven Greer to "Jonathan Reed" et al. We all know who "they" are or have been, and many of us attendant to the "paranormal" have even been labeled, ourselves, rightly or wrongly, as "hucksters,"—or worse—at one time or another. But why are these "first-wash hoaxsters" with us, at all, those who seem toso inexplicablyrise again from "complete discredit's" blazing censure bonfire; how do they return and then puzzlingly linger?

I think I can offer a reasonable answer. Here it is: these rise again, return and linger quite simply, reader, because there is nothing or no one of effectual quality—as might be provided by credentialed academia or qualifying authority—to take their place! Yes. The officiators of our mainstream society—ironically compiling and providing for their own discredit—remain very suspiciously moot on these compelling subjects, except to cast moronic, unimaginative, and non-scientific aspersions on same. ...And what's up with that?

Consider, reader, the current go-to skepti-puppy "darling," Bow-Tied Bill Nye—The (erstwhile) "Science Guy."

In a nutshell, Nye does not read "UFO Dean" Stanton Friedman's books, for example, because Friedman's books are, in the words of uber-skeptic Michael Shermer, "...Ridiculous nonsense apart from good science and a distracting foolishness serving only for the destruction of same." I paraphrase, but I think the preceding is expressed even a little better than alternative fundamentalist skeptic Michael Shermer will express it, himself. The point is: Bill Nye, as a ready example of where science rubber meets the existential road, won't even look at the evidence. His mind, such that it is typical of his guild—or geld—is made up.

Correspondingly, with science's utter failure to admit, credibly investigate, or even let themselves become aware of the remotest "paranormal happenstance" in general—and UFOs in particular—science creates, where none need exist, an information void of very insistent attraction as it pertains to that ...officially proclaimed lack... of all those things which most persons feel—in their heart of hearts, reader—is not lacking at all!

Strangeness abounds! Nature abhors a vacuum in its regard, especially an informational one! The draw is inexorable. "Stuff gets sucked in"!

Promptly sucked in by this very understandable—if distressing—plenum of needless intellectual "vacuum"? We can list a plethora of the well-meaning whack-a-doodled, victims themselves! We can list second-tier scholars otherwise clamoring to have their research get its hearing in any review.  We can list fringe enthusiasts of far-out; however, sincere initiatives shooting off their "crazy" ideas like intellectual fireworks.  We can list many, many others defying easy description... crystal squeezers and rune casters... but all these listed fervid with information-seeking passion! Still, it's pointed out, again, that these are filled with a passion that remains pointedly unrequited by obstinate authority or officiality... apart from cast aspersion! Verily, sincere seekers are only ridiculed for their impassioned seeking!

Finally, in a now predicted tiny minority, but with squeaky wheels getting grease so seeming the majority... the "tolerated huckster"—read sociopath—campaigns in the facilitated and unmoderated vacuum for the easy dollar... like any self-respecting psychopath. People "in need who need to know" are easy victims.

This perhaps even multiplely discredited huckster, then, invariably drawn back in by the facilitated prevailing and ongoing vacuum, and able to parlay that institutional ignorance—burdened with its suspicious hostility—into reasonable doubt... lives, again and again, reader, because nothing more credible (apart from baseless cast aspersion) evolves in the interim to take his place!

On the other side, the un-invested though truth-seeking "rank and file," justifiably feeling they are denied informed consent in these obvious matters of the outré—consequently provoked to diminishing confidence in the system betraying them—can only investigate what is there to be investigated, eh? See, bad skepticism or bad science—lacking, ironically, all sense and science—provides for itself, with its lack of efficacious contribution, for the resurrected huckster!

Let me underscore the irony! The system then, itself, creates the tolerated huckster decried! The latter would not exist without the former. Is that the plan?  I suspect it must be.

Moving on: Lack of Peer Review? Let's pause for a moment of inordinately squirty giggles... then let me tell you a true story about a sneer quoted "peer review" that must be relegated, of outraged needs, to a disrespectful lower case. The story regards a mainstream "peer review" in the "real" world, now, so one can then extrapolate to the even more unachievable "peer review" in the "ufological" one. Peer review seems decidedly suspect and the presumption of its default efficacy may even be a myth!

Once upon a time in the late 1960s, a brilliant Harvard scientist by the name of Dr. K. McCully did extensive research regarding the effects of folic acid, B-6, B-12 & Betaine (TMG) on homocysteine levels. He showed conclusively, reader, that these simple—and inexpensive—B vitamins, plus the methyl-donor Tri-methyl-glycine (TMG), dramatically facilitated the breakdown of this corrosive amino acid. So?

Well, Homocysteine, you see, a bad product of our inconsolably bad 20th Century diet, has a degenerative toxic effect on arterial cells, resulting in inflammation and deformation of the arterial walls. This causes a "rough spot" or break, if you will, (cue the sudden threat music!) that foul oxidized lipids... and an unfairly maligned cholesterol... stick to. You're tapping your watch. So?

Bear with me. An innocent Cholesterol rather acts like restorative putty… "sealing the cracks" so to speak caused by the homocysteine. It's the good, reparative, thing in an "arterial plaque" made necessary, folks, by a corrosive diet; contrarily, it's the entirely unnecessary and unhealthful oxidized lipids that must be reduced!

Be that as it may, cholesterol is fatuously identified as the bogey man regarding diseases of the heart and arteries. Why? See, unfortunately, about that time, the large drug companies like Merck Pharmaceuticals (cue Darth Vader's theme!) were eagerly anticipating the introduction of their very expensive if very dangerous cholesterol-lowering "Statin" drugs, like Lipitor! Consequently, Dr. McCully—and rather predictably reader—had to be squashed like an "inside" bug…

Still, no worries mate! Peer review (cue the cavalry music) would come to Dr. McCully's aid, surely! All of the Doctor's research was reproducible and, besides, a masses-wide quality of life issue, it was the efficaciously right thing to do! Everybody wins. Well, most everybody.

You guessed! His peers turned decidedly against him. McCully was fired from his prestigious Harvard job, ridiculed in the press and named medical journals, and then washed up doing medical grunt work (autopsies) in needlessly seedy VA hospitals. No good deed goes unpunished, eh?

Timewarp to thirty-plus years and many many millions of Lipitor prescriptions later; it's 1998, and Dr. McCully is—and remains—wholly vindicated! How?

Well, as a result of receiving the Functional Medicine Linus Pauling Award for same! Moreover, his book "The Homocysteine Revolution," is published, and, without embarrassment—where time appears to heal all wounds—all the medical journals trashing him before now grudgingly admit he was right all along! Of course Merck Pharmaceuticals, et sig al. are doing all they can, still, to discredit McCully's findings. They, uh... have to, don't they?

To the point:

There's your peer review, reader, snug in a corporate vest pocket. UFOs, I submit, on the other hand, have more gravitas than to stand in queue for this obnoxious "peer review." Indeed, the paranormal in general must fare less well—UFOs in particular.

Moving on to subsequent items, please mourn the "provoked disinterest of the mainstream scientific community," reader. ...And ponder what a shame it is that the presence of a few "hoaxed whackos" and their "whacking hoaxsters" could turn the noble head of science from what would otherwise be entirely visible and obvious to them—it is proclaimed by science—and then, finally alerted at long, long last, they would busily investigate same! Eyes roll imploringly heavenward like the clown in the illustration!

Revealed, then, to their "now un-scaled" academic eyes: Seven categories of very compelling evidence as it regards the ufological! Some might even say proof of an outré "other" extant and present before us and present for countless centuries...

Yes! Wholly unconsidered and even ignored by these mainstream "scientists" inexplicably duped to insentience, apparently, by "fringe morons and intellectual lightweights," is a massive evidentiary pathway known across seven categories to include

(1) the Historical textual documents glyphed in soot and cut into stone or otherwise writ in ancient inks on cracking vellum,
(2) the extant Artistic Historical from primitives on the walls of their caves, through Middle-Age wood-cuts, to the masterpieces of the masters on rough canvas and slick gesso later on
(3) the quality Anecdotal reports backed up by multiple vetted witnesses and corresponding radar
(4) genuine Photographic efforts prior to digital photography provided by Dr. Bruce Maccabee, et sig al
(5) extant Physical Traces of landing UFOs as laboriously outlined by Ted Phillips and others
(6) the "wholly Personal" evidence, if you have any as I do and
(7) even the Mathematical, reader, as it is described in modern physics regarding the consequences of satisfying requirements accounting for "the formality of the actual occurrence" of something physical in this multi-verse (humanity "happened" so "others" must) but, specifically, as it is described in Probability One by Amir D. Aczel, Ph.D.

Alien intelligence, reader, is a certainty! Moreover, the evidence—entirely if ironically in concert with Fermi—is that they are here. Pack that pipe and spark it.

Every bit of the preceding must come to bupkis for these easily distracted scientists without imagination to be correct regarding every shred of evidence about "pipe-dream" UFOs and their inevitable ancillaries. Every bit! What a crushing, inexorable, and ultimately futile responsibility that must be... to so pointlessly proclaim a perfect debunking record and then so hopelessly endure same... where the maligned "whack-a-doodle," without any effort whatsoever, only has to be right once!  One TRUFO and a new game is afoot!  The debunker becomes irrelevant!

No—mainstream Science is only too well aware that there is something there bearing more than a dismissive glance, eh? One only needs to review the plight of Dr. McCully above for the real reason Science is so inexplicably indifferent to the paranormal, and... UFOs in particular. It has nothing to do with distracting whack-a-doodles and everything to do with where the self-interested and self-protecting money goes!  Follow the money.

Lastly, we come to the "incorrigibly inconsistent protocols employed by suspicious amateurs." It seems obvious that we must return to the concepts of "betrayed sensibility" leavened with the "information vacuum" from above, eh? The vacuum aforementioned attracts saint and psychopath alike. Demons and angels abound! It has become abundantly apparent just recently as it pertains to The Threat of Doctor Jacobs; to wit: that inconsistent protocols of amateurs by definition are employed, and dangerously so. Science and society are suspiciously moot on the subject regarding who does what to whom as it pertains to the paranormal, and UFOs in particular.

Yes, UFOs... ...performing their self-generated function of discrediting an arrogant, ignorant, and pompous science—as Terence McKenna described it in 1986—...UFOs ...are entirely in their own control, reader, and quite apart from the controls of those aforementioned corrupted governments, self-interested institutions, and ephemeral agencies decried, eh? Science instead is self-hobbled with the suspiciously ironic obstinacy of a science mainstream to, indeed, provide for its own self-imposed if ironic discredit in paranormal matters, and as you might predict: UFOs in particular.  Science cuts its own throat!

Indeed, isn't that the problem with the official ridicule of the UFO? The paranormal—and UFOs in particular—don't play according to the rules an infant humanity has set down, laughingly, as immutable laws (more squirty giggles); instead, UFOs reveal themselves as the ultimate sedition, and must of needs be ridiculed by the mainstream, at all costs, or science cum society is invalidated.

Hey, too bad, eh? BS begets more BS and it has to come to a stop sometimes. Asymptotic graph lines describing dire future "supply and demand" existentialities inform us that a concrescence looms and that its accelerating figures are huge. What price the BS? ...That's huge, too.

Closing, what do we have then as regards the "ostensibly serious and respected learned in our torrid community decrying the carnival atmosphere of studies "paranormal" in general... and UFOs in particular"?

I don't want to be overly harsh, but at 73 in the winter of my winter, well past any perceivable "mentoring," and just wanting to cut to the F'n chase? I wonder about scientific complacency, its arrogant and wholly unfounded indifference regarding same, and even scientistic cowardice—where it's not the specific cowardice of individual human beings officiating a science in shame.  Could that shame be connected to the current unwarranted dismissal that science endures, presently?

These respected learned can instead put their blame where they know it needs to go, at the causes of the supposed buffoonery they take time to lip-service. That cause? The obverse officiality of society in the round and culture in the aggregate, the "disease bed" at the base and causing the offensive symptoms outlined above, altogether, as these may pertain to the paranormal in general... and, yes, UFOs in particular.

See? There is something availed to be studied, and it is a study providing for infant humanity to leave the confines of its increasingly uninhabitable crib... even as that human infant wanders into the cosmic "kitchen" and burns itself on an interstellar "stove," eh?

Burns heal. It sure beats suffocating in toxic filth piling up back in the nursery and even burned, reader, while we inevitably heal with new lessons learned, we discover that there's so much more to learn in a future where the brightest torch reveals even greater darkness, right? Remains! It is from that darkness that any novelty is plied, at all!
